This chart shows the historical number of National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) Checks initiated by New Yorkers each month of June since 1999.
The June 2015 NICS Checks of 22,717 is the second highest June total in 17 years, slightly lower than the June 2014 NICS total.
The overall trend is clear: while there was a rise in the number of NYS NICS Checks pre-SAFE Act, the volumes of NYS NICS checks post SAFE Act (2013), has increased significantly.
Passage of the so-called SAFE Act appears to have had a wholly unintended effect: it has further strengthened New Yorkers' resolve to defend and exert their Second Amendment rights. Every month, thousands more New Yorkers reject the failed law, and exercise their 2A Rights through likely firearms purchases (handguns and long guns) expanding firearms ownership throughout the state.
