The chart shows the historical number of National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) Checks initiated by New Yorkers each month of July since 1999.

The July 2015 NICS Checks of 21,821 is the second highest July total in 17 years.

The overall trend is clear: there was a variable rise in the number of NYS NICS Checks pre-SAFE Act (before 2013), however, since that time, the volumes of NYS NICS checks post SAFE Act has increased significantly.

Passage of the so-called SAFE Act has resulted in a response from the public that was unanticipated by the politicians who helped sneak it past New Yorkers in the dark of night: the failed law has further strengthened New Yorkers' resolve to defend and exert their Second Amendment rights. Every month, thousands more New Yorkers reject the SAFE Act, and exercise their 2A Rights through likely firearms purchases (handguns and long guns), and expanding firearms ownership throughout the state.
