Schenectady County Junior Rifle Club

During the fall of 1980, the Iroquois R&G Club invited the Schenectady County Junior Rifle Club (SCJRC) to provide a smallbore rifle program for junior boys and girls. Since then, the Iroquois Club has been the base of operations for the SCJRC.

The mission of the SCJRC is to provide an opportunity for local boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 20 to learn the basics of smallbore rifle marksmanship and, hopefully, develop the skills for precision rifle shootng required for competition.

The SCJRC training for club members is specifically designed to develop competition rifle shooters; competition matches sanctioned by the NRA, USAShooting, and the Civilian Marksmanship Program are used throughout the year to develop competitive rifle shooting skills. Competitive shooting is not only a means to proficient shooting skill but necessary if the club member wishes to participate in a college shooting team.

SCJRC meets on Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Iroquois range. Refer to the club calendar on this website for scheduled dates.  From October to May, club practice is held at the Iroquois 50-ft. indoor range. During the summer months, SCJRC practices are held at the covered outdoor range opposite the Iroquois clubhouse. Hence, SCJRC members have the chance to develop both indoor and outdoor rifle shooting skills.

SCJRC has an inventory of single shot target rifles, along with shooting jackets, gloves, mats and scopes that members can use as part of their membership. Currently, SCJRC membership is $60 per year, renewable at the start of each year. If prospective members have a junior membership with the Iroquois Club, SCJRC membership is $50 per year.

Anyone interested in more info about SCJRC are asked to contact Chuck Meyer by e-mail cmeyer1@nycap.rr.com or phone 518.265.3555.
